EB put the spotlight on sustainability with "Green Week" (La Semaine Verte) during April, posing a Zero Waste Challenge to the school community. How did we do? Read on!
EB Students Spotlight Zero Waste
Green Week at EB kicked off with a high-energy, musical "Eco-Hero" assembly in the Lower School MPR for Earth Day. It was a great start to a week focused on learning about sustainable everyday practices that create Zero Waste.
The Challenge: Reduce Your Waste
To help learn about sustainability in "real life," students at the Lower School took part in the "Zero Waste" challenge. All week long during recess and lunch, they used designated garbage/recycling bins, so they could monitor their waste and measure their progress in reducing it. They also learned strategies for reducing waste, to help them achieve their goal.

The Results:
All week, Lower School students successfully made sure to put their trash in the designated bins. Each afternoon, two G5 Eco Heroes (Mila and Tomy) weighed the four designated bins promptly at 3:05. By using the strategies they had learned, Lower School students were able to reduce their overall waste by more than 80%! Even better, they were able to reduce their non-recyclable waste by 96%! An impressive outcome with inspiring implications for us all! Congratulations Eco Heroes!
