Recognizing The Achievements of Women, Near & Far

Women's History Month, observed every March, celebrates and recognizes the achievements, contributions, and history of women worldwide.

The origins of Women's History Month can be traced back to International Women's Day (March 8th), which was first observed in the early 20th century. The idea of dedicating a full month to women's history gained momentum in the United States in the 1970s. In 1981, Congress passed a resolution establishing Women's History Week, and in 1987, it was expanded to a month-long celebration.

Many women have made notable contributions in various fields, but their stories have often been overlooked or marginalized. By highlighting the accomplishments of women in diverse areas, Women's History Month serves as a source of inspiration for current and future generations. It empowers women by showcasing examples of resilience, leadership, and success, encouraging others to pursue their goals and aspirations.

Today, Women's History Month is part of the larger movement advocating for gender equality. It serves as a reminder of the progress that has been made, the challenges that still exist, and the work that remains to be done to break down stereotypes and challenge gender biases.

This Women's History Month, let's celebrate the many women, both past and present, who have been instrumental in creating the EB community we are so proud of today. From the early leadership of women like Annie-May de Bresson, Gretchen Grant, Tanny Keeler-Hodgetts and Christine Leigh-Taylor to the tireless dedication of our current faculty and staff,  your contributions make an indelible mark on the lives of those you touch.
